Gao Tianjun, lecturer in linguistics, master's supervisor. He received his BA and MA from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, PhD from Xiamen University. He joined the faculty at Huazhong University of Science and Technology in 2019.
Gao's main research interests lie at the evolutionary history of Chinese minority languages, especially Sino-Tibetan languages. In addition, he pays special attention to the computer-assisted methods of historical linguistic. His first book, Study on Phylogenetic Network in Tibeto-Burman Languages, focuses on the evolutionary model of Tibeto-Burman languages. In this book he successfully reconstructed the evolutionary network of Tibeto-Burman language family based on the cognates identified by computer assisted methods. This study provides a valuable reference for the evolution model of Tibeto-Burman languages.
He is currently the director of a research project of The National Social Science Fund of China and another project of Research Foundation from Ministry of Education of China. He is also a part-time editor of the academic journal Studies in Language and Linguistics.
