In order to welcome the 2020 freshmen of the School of Humanities , help them adapt to the new university life as soon as possible, and enter the new journey of the university with a good spirit, the opening ceremony of the 2020 freshmen of the School of Humanities was held at Dongjiu B102 on the afternoon of October 15. School of Humanities Party Secretary Liu Chanjuan, Dean Liu Jiuming, Deputy Party Secretary Ye Zhi, Class Teachers Qi Xiaoyan, Gao Tianjun, and Chao Yanting, Dai Weiyou, Head of Undergraduate Educational Affairs, and Chang Wenya, Undergraduate Counselor, attended the opening ceremony. The ceremony was presided over by Song Haipei, a freshman counselor for the Class of 2020.
Yu Jiawei from the 2020 Chinese Language and Literature Strong Basic Class spoke as a representative of the freshmen. With the vision and confidence for the new school year, she proposed that the new humanities students should do three things: one is to cultivate one's morality and to be a person of noble character; the other is to persevere and be a diligent person; the third is to be brave to pursue your dreams and be a person with high ambitions. Yu Jiawei said " The process of pursuing dreams in life is not easy. There are bound to be thorns on the road to realize dreams, but with goals and beliefs, we are not afraid of wind and waves and move forward courageously, just like Zhong Nanshan, Zhang Dingyu, Huang Wenxiu, Qin Yue Like flying, the humanities students must use their own character and knowledge to leave a splendid stroke on the road ahead in China! "
The senior representative Zhang Zixin, student from the 1701 class of Chinese Language and Literature , shared his gains and insights in the Faculty of Humanities. As the chairman of the Student Union of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Zhang Zixin has excellent academic performance, participated in various scientific research activities in advance as an "Excellent Student", and was awarded a "National Scholarship". Although she had been confused, through hard work, she found her own direction in the humanities family. She said, " Literature is a study of the soul. As long as humans still need the spiritual starry sky and horizon, literature will do a lot. The study of language and literature brings me a unique life experience and also makes me a warm-hearted and sentimental person. " In the speech. She also encourages students to read, explore, feel the pulse of literature, and become people who love literature and life.
Afterwards, the teacher representative class Gao Tianjun, class adviser of Chinese 2001, sent a sincere message to students. Combining his own study experience at Huazhong University, he hopes that after entering the school, students will not forget their original aspirations, continue to work hard to maintain excellence, set goals and set ideals on the road of struggle, and move forward unswervingly. Then, Liu Chanjuan, secretary of the Party Committee of the Faculty of Humanities, delivered a welcome speech. Secretary Liu first expressed a warm welcome to the arrival of the freshmen of Class of 2020. She said thatClass of 2020 is a special class who experienced the college entrance examination in the epidemic and finally encountered in Huazhong University of Science and Technology with a solid foundation, tenacity and fighting spirit. After a long waiting, everyone eventually got together in Yuyuan and met the best Class of 2020. Subsequently, Secretary Liu introduced the efforts and contributions made by Huazhong University and the Faculty of Humanities in the fight against the epidemic. As the university with the most investment and contribution in the battle against the epidemic, the teachers and students of the Faculty of Humanities also take an active part in it which shows the fidelity and sincerity of our teachers and students to the Communist Party of China, to the motherland, and to the people.
Secretary Liu also introduced the situation[14] of the Faculty of Humanities. She mentioned that “The Faculty of Humanities is an important epitome of the development and growth of the humanities and social sciences of Huazhong University ” and has created many academic education brands such as “Spring and Autumn Lectures” and “Master Creative Writing Courses”. She hopes that the freshmen will gain a sense of identity and belonging in the process of continuing the excellent traditions, and encourage everyone to bravely compete for thefirst[15] , and strive to become an academic explorer who advocates learning, understanding and innovation, a promoter of exchanges between Chinese culture and world civilization, a pioneer in the practice of Chinese wisdom, a responsible bearer of humanistic care and country feelings, and a historical creator who has learned Chinese and Western cultures and practiced morality. She hopes that everyone will learn from outstanding alumni like Zhang Dingyu, the People’s Hero, Hu Yu, Dean of the Affiliated Union Hospital, strictly disciplined themselves with the spirit of Huazhong University, shoulder the responsibilities and missions of the times, and strive towards the direction of ideals, towards the direction of the party, the country and the people. In the fifth session, Dean Professor Liu Jiuming taught the " First Class " to the freshmen of Grade 20 undergraduate . From a professional point of view, Dean Liu asked three questions: " Why study Chinese? " " What exactly will the Chinese department study? " " What can graduates of the Chinese department do in the future? " , which aroused the students' thoughts. Beginning with professional knowledge, Dean Liu extended his speech from learning issues to Chinese professionalism.
